Retro Football Week – Day 4

Day 4 is now complete and today’s focus was on the naughties! The football conversations didn’t show any signs of faltering with even more facts, stats and players names shared. Our throwback to the games, travelled to 2005 and the epic Champions League Final and then onto the Champions League final of 2009. In between these historic events there were some fantastic stories shared, from the World Cup 2002.

On the player focus we looked at Messi, Ronaldo and even had time to replicate some real Premier League moments, in Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

Tomorrow, we move onto the all time greats where games, players and tournaments will be included. I know there is some demand for some Thierry Henry love, as well as Wayne Rooney!

We will also have our end of the week raffle and prizes, that always generate lots of interest!

Retro Football Week – Day 3

Today, we hit the half way point of our first summer course and ventured into the 90’s! This decade had been the topic of conversation for the last few days, so the wait was now over!

The player focus shifted onto Paolo Maldini and Paul Gascoigne – with some very good efforts made today, of replicating the famous goal against Scotland.
The games in question were Brazil vs France in the World Cup Final (1998), with a visit to the Nou Camp as well, where we looked at Man Utd vs Bayern Munich (1999).

Just before lunchtime we were given a great surprise, as Reading FC captain and international for Ghana, Andy Yiadom, paid us a visit with a Q & A and some insight to his career to do date! Thanks for popping in – the kids loved it!!

Tomorrow, we visit the 00’s with one famous Champions League Final, taking centre stage!

Retro Football Week – Day 2

Onto the 2nd day of our Retro Football Course and today, the focus shifted to the 1980’s! We were fortunate enough to have some great facts and stats shared by all participants, which makes the day even more enjoyable. There were Shoot magazines, shirts, video footage and boots shown from this decade, which gave some real nostalgia to the occasion.

Elsewhere, all participants received their free football shirt and USB sticks, courtesy of a course sponsor, VRT! On each stick, there are 10 of the greatest games from the past, for all players to keep!

The effort all participants have so far made is truly commended, with some treating their ‘football homework’ very seriously. Some of the knowledge that has been shared, has been very well received and we’re looking forward to hearing a lot more tomorrow.

The next stop is the 90’s and I already know that this decade is going to be enjoyed! On we go….

Retro Football Week – Day 1

Today we kicked off our first, football retro week in excellent style. The focus today was on the 70’s with the World Cups having most of the attention.

All of the players contributed to the tasks set out, which were based around previous results, top scorers and the players that had an influence on that decade. The 2 key players mentioned were Franz Beckenbauer (West Germany) & Carlos Alberto (Brazil). The previously mentioned received some good plaudits, alongside some other all time greats.

Tomorrow, we’ll be moving on and into the 80’s, with a close eye on a European Cup Final and a fixture from the European Championships.

We’re hoping for excellent participation again and our first football kit workshop, hosted by our very own, Adam Clark.

We’re delighted to confirm that for the first week of our Summer Football Courses (July 25th – July 29th), we have QPR’s Junior Vlogger, George Sharp joining us.

George currently operates on social media and will often be seen at QPR matches. During the build up to a game he will often report on absentees in the squad and the possible starting 11. Elsewhere, he’ll interview staff, players and new signings on various different topics.

Adam said; “During the 2 weeks planned for the summer, we will have many different things going on, as most will know. To gain the maximum out of this, we will record certain parts and have George on board to help. He has great skill at interviewing professionals within the game, so this will be hugely beneficial for all involved”.
