Introducing Albert Capellas

Implementing our new coaching methodology will be no easy task, which is why we’ll have continued interaction with it’s founder, Albert Capellas.

A native from Spain, Albert has worked within the professional game for many years and has had a number of high profile roles, at some of the most prestigious football clubs in the world. These include Borussia Dortmund, Brondy IF and of course FC Barcelona.

Albert is currently working within the world famous, La Masia (FC Barcelona academy), on his 2nd tenure within the club. As you can imagine, this role is highly demanding and requires a lot of dedicated work, in order to keep raising the bar.

Throughout our collaboration in the 2021/22 season, Albert will be on hand to support the coaches, review training footage and offer advice in implementing the 3 core pillars of the Cruyff methodology (possession, positioning and pressing). This support structure will be vitally important for Park to Pro, to ensure we’re implementing high quality training sessions and in turn, improving players.

How our training will look

After the news we bought you last week regarding the implementation of the Cruyff methodology with our training centre, we will now explain how this will work.

Each week our coaching team will design a training situation that our players will learn from, while taking into account all of the external factors. These factors could be the amount of players present, the weather and what the objective of the session entails, for example. Each and every player is different, thus meaning our session planning has to be of the highest order.

The new platform that we have exclusive access to, stores over 200 videos, 400 training sessions and numerous other resources (ranging from webinars and information on systems of play). The purpose? To assist and inspire our coaches in training session design, while also learning this style of play. While it is very tempting to copy and paste what is online, it’s vital that we consider the playing abilities of all our players and as mentioned, the external factors.

Having this style of training implemented will allow us to objectively analyse performance, as well as highlighting incompetencies with our players. Why is this a good thing? Once an incompetence has been highlighted, our coaching team can come up with a solution to help this player and guide the learning process. If players are too comfortable in training or rarely challenged, their performance won’t be overloaded and they will merely cruise through the foundation years on auto pilot. Our job at Park to Pro is to help every player improve and reach their personal improvement goals, through our training structure.

We are fully invested in using this new new platform, which will be a huge learning process for all involved. Upon successful application, it will then be down to the respective player in question to adapt and learn these new methods, which will almost certainly improve their game.

We’re hugely excited, we hope you are too!!

Our new methodology

Joining the Park to Pro training centre in September, will be the Cruyff methodology. Currently a famous household name, Johan Cruyff dazzled audiences with his exceptional playing ability and then, the style of play that he implemented at football giants, Ajax and FC Barcelona.

For those that don’t know, Cruyff was extremely successful and to this day, is held responsible for some of the talent and football that is currently on show. Managers such as Pep Guardiola learnt many lessons from Cruyff and this impacts on how he applies his style of play, with Manchester City.

While there is an extreme amount of detail in what was/is implemented, we can learn that there are 3 main pillars that are used within this stye of play. They are;

Possession – Controlling possession of the ball, moving the ball quickly with a few touches to destabilise the opponent’s defensive structure.

Positioning – Positioning of our players on the pitch to allow us to be economical with our effort and well-organised to react quickly when we lose the ball. We also want to prevent counter-attacks and to try and win the ball back in the opponent’s half, when lost.

Pressing – Pressing aggressively to win the ball back as quickly as possible when we lose it. The best time to win the ball back is immediately after we lose it.

By using this methodology, we’ll be able to implement a clear identity within our practices and games. This will enable us to objectively analyse where certain competencies lie within our environment and how we can help our players improve.

For our coaches, this will be a huge learning opportunity for them as well, as we now have private access to an online community that offers plenty of resources, for the above mentioned principles. Each training session will be planned accordingly inline with our intentions, that will then incorporate a platform for the players to execute their own decisions.
Off of the field there will be mentorship opportunities and shared evaluations, which will allow us all to reflect and evolve as a group.

On Monday, there will an explanation on how we’ll be using this methodology.

Player support improves

Player support improves

Next season at Park to Pro there will be plenty of improvements as you’ve already seen. There will be a new platform within the training centre which will enable us to all communicate better, a methodology implemented that is world famous and equipment to ensure, we can all reflect accordingly.

Lastly, we have taken the steps to introduce an online player mentorship programme. This programme will consist of 2 workshops per month, that the players can watch at their own leisure. The videos will be uploaded to an online platform and last around 15 minutes each, with extensive detail provided on certain action/moments of the game.

Adam said; “I want to be able to provide an all round player package, that can help everyone improve. Being on the pitch is what we all want, but I’ve now taken a focus on what we can do to help players, away from the training centre. We will now be providing, recorded video footage – that will be available on a weekly basis, a football book – provided to all players breaking down football actions, a brand new player diary – that will allow each player to reflect on their own progress, and finally, this new online programme.”

Commenting on another online programme that was a success, Adam added, “We have just come to the end of our online coach mentorship programme and this was a resounding success. The plan now is to roll this concept out to all of our players and see how they get on. I’m really looking forward to restarting in September”.

There will be information available from Friday 6th August, on how you can register for our training centre.

Tour plans confirmed

Is there a better way to announce a tour to Spain, after yesterday’s news?! We’re delighted to confirm that we have provisional plans agreed, to travel to Salou in May, 2022.
The training camp will be taking place at the ‘Futbol Salou Sports Center’, with accommodation just a stones throw away, from Monday 30th May – Friday 3rd June.

Throughout the week, there will be 4 coaching masterclasses from Spanish coaches who implement the Cruyff football methodology, as well as 2 games. On site there are numerous swimming pools and activities, for all of the family to take part in.

Adam said; “Providing there is relaxation on rules regarding COVID, we plan on travelling to Spain in May 2022. It has been a long term ambition of mine to take children from the UK, into another culture for them to experience first hand what it’s like. For me, I don’t see a better place to do this after yesterday’s news”.

Speaking about the training programme and proposed games; “Being in Spain will bring out it’s challenges for some, so to add some excitement to this occasion, we’ll be teaming up with some coaches over there, who will lead the training sessions. We also plan on playing at least 2 games against local opposition, with a player review taking place soon, here in the UK. By doing this review here, we can be sure that we’ll be playing against teams that will challenge us, when we are visiting”.

Full details for this tour will initially be available on Friday 6th August, with a follow up meeting arranged for the week commencing Monday 16th August.
