Day 3 of August football course

Today we entered the 3rd day of our football course, with the theme centred around building up, using the new Cruyff methodology.
This morning our players were introduced to 4 or 5 exercises, with the objective in building up attacks in order to score. Firstly, we focused on some basic action exercises and swiftly moved into some opposed practices, using different challenges to provoke learning.

Before lunch, all of our players were introduced to some new possession based exercises that were challenging from start to finish. The objective of these were to score, but as we know this isn’t always the case. This is where we then introduced the pressing moment of the game, as there was plenty of opportunity to transition.

Lastly today, our players were put into game situations (tactical overloads), where they could showcase what they had learnt in possession (under pressure) and getting into suitable positions to receive the ball.

We were extremely pleased with the application of all players today and the learning that took place!

Tomorrow our focus will be on attacking, looking at converting the goal scoring opportunities.

Day 2 of August football course

Today was the 2nd day of the August football course, with a successful day had. The focus today was defending, specifically looking at preventing goal scoring opportunities. Along with looking at this within a team context, we had a A1’s goalkeeper coach in attendance, to work with all the children.

The structure of the day started with large training sessions in groups, with smaller groups visiting our GK station at set intervals, to gain an understanding on handling/blocking. This is imperative for those that want to play in this position, to prevent goals from being scored.

The standard of playing has been of a very high quality and we are delighted with the application that the children have shown. There has clearly been learning taking place as our question and answer sessions have been hugely successful.

Tomorrow our focus will be on building up the attack, using the Cruyff methodology using their 3 pillars of positioning, possession and pressing.

Day 1 of August football course

Today was the start of the August football course taking place at our superb venue, St.Georges School, Ascot.
On a pristine playing surface and nice weather to suit, the children arrived raring to go, to take part in our first theme of the week, defending, specifically looking at disrupting the build up.

Throughout the day our players took part in 3 coaching sessions, while also detailing 17 things that can influence defending, during our set breaks. Football actions and the phase of play we’re explained in detail by all players, which was highly impressive.

As well as looking at defending today, there was a focus on our overall task of the week, reflecting on performance. This is a powerful tool for players of all ages and tomorrow there will be more time set aside for this, in which we’ll start laying foundations.

The focus tomorrow is on defending again, while focusing on preventing goal scoring opportunities. We will also welcome our guest coach, who will be leading a session on goalkeeping.
